Glam Slam: What To Wear To 4th of July Parties

How are you spending the long 4th of July holiday weekend? I’m willing to bet there’s at least one party involved at some point!

Dressing festive (like a very patriotic Meryl Streep!) is one way to go, but if you’re worried about looking like a red, white and blue cliche, then take a more simple approach.

“A foundation of white and denim clothing peppered with neon and metallic accessories feels fresh and upbeat for a fun day spent out in the sun with friends,” suggests Melissa Magsaysay, L.A Times Best Selling author of “City of Style: Exploring Los Angeles Fashion from Bohemian to Rock.”

“You might already have a breezy white cotton sundress in your closet (like Anne Hathaway’s) that serves as a perfect, light canvas to spice up with some bold accessories. If a sundress isn’t exactly your speed, simply pair a simple white shirt – something more elevated than a t-shirt, think about a top with eyelet or vintage lace detail, or go sporty with a racer back tank – with denim shorts.

It sounds basic, but statement-making accessories like a straw fedora with a neon band or bright colored flip-flops or espadrilles bring a playful aspect to an easy ensemble.

Now is the time to bring out the metallic sandals as well. Particularly since the outfit is simple, you can go for bold with a metallic gladiator sandal as well as pepper in some chunky bangles and a pair of vividly hued sunglasses or stay with the metallic theme and sport a pair of classic gold aviator sunglasses.”
