What do your jeans say about you? Turns out a lot!
Denim is such a part of our DNA, I canââ¬â¢t think of a better way to express personal style than with this American classic. Thereââ¬â¢s a denim style for every mood, itââ¬â¢s just a matter of tapping into which vibe your feeling. InStyle hit its Pinterest boards to come up with some distinct denim personality types.
Which one are you?
The Cool Prepster
Forget madras and polos. A cool prepster likes her classic blues with a dash of subversion. Pinning celebrity muses like Alexa Chung, Jenna Lyons and Olivia Palermo, the prepster can incorporate unexpected details to her denim, like frayed seams or unexpected embellishment, without looking over the top. To accomplish this look, keep the rest of the ensemble simple with a striped T, crisp oxford shirt or a colorful knit and top off with a simple menââ¬â¢s-style silver watch and an all-seasons leather tote.
The Sophisticate
You wonââ¬â¢t find any holes in the jeans of the sophisticateââ¬â¢s closet. If you like to keep your denim, sleek, tasteful and expensive-looking, your favorite celebrities to Pin probably include classy ladies such as Victoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr and Kate Middleton. Your refined look can be completed with a silk blouse, sumptuous cashmere turtleneck or sharp blazer and minimal accessories, like a classic leather satchel and elegant pointy pumps.
The Creative
With an eye for fine detail and design, the creativeââ¬â¢s denim combo will be as Instagrammable as the interior of her carefully curated apartment. Your most pinned celebrity looks come from quirky stars like Kirsten Dunst, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams. With your unforced artsy and slightly off-kilter aesthetic, pair your jean pieces with printed tunic blouses, cozy over-sized cardigans or a tailored peacoat, perfectly pairing polish with quirk. Slip into some simple espadrilles or some menswear-influenced oxfords and youââ¬â¢re Instaready!
The Free Spirit
Always following her own gut, the free spirit gravitates towards the most improbable trends and silhouettes, easily translating them into wearable masterpieces. Following in the bohemian-meets-city-girl aesthetic of Pinterest icons like Leandra Medine, Chloe Sevigny and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, your denim comes in wild variations, from overalls to slouchy boyfriend cuts, youââ¬â¢ll try it all. Try pairing a fitted midi skirt (the slit is key!) with a pair of skinnies, throw on a top with an unexpected twist, like a mesh overlay, toss a vintage leopard coat over your shoulders and slip on some Birkenstocks to head out the door.
The Neo-Rocker
Always the one who is friends with the band, the neo-rocker exudes that ââ¬ÅI donââ¬â¢t care what you think because I know I look goodââ¬Â attitude. Much like her Pinterest muses Sky Ferreira, Kate Moss and Rihanna, she has the uncanny ability to create outfits that shouldnââ¬â¢t work in theory, but do. Never a try-hard, your denim goes best with a simple white T and a worn leather moto jacket. For daytime, a chunky, biker-inspired boot completes your look, while stiletto sandals look just as great for night. A spiky bracelet is your final touch before you take off on a legendary crowd surf.
