‘Glee’ Newbie Chord Overstreet Talks Playing Finn’s Rival

“Glee” fans might have thought Finn was back on top as the New Direction’s resident singing stud following Jesse St. James’ exit last season, but a new student played by Chord Overstreet is about to make a big splash on the FOX series.

“My character is Sam Evans and I’m the new kid at McKinley High School,” Chord told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles.

“I will be joining the glee club. I’ll be on the football team,” he explained. “I start off as Finn’s friend and kind of become his competition later on in the show.”

When asked if he would be getting a love interest on the hit musical comedy, the 21-year-old actor said he’s being kept in dark – just like the Gleeks!

“We take it an episode at a time,” Chord said. “So, they haven’t really filled me in on that stuff yet.”

Besides getting a welcome slushy to the face when he joined the cast, Chord said it’s been great joining the “Glee” gang.

“A little hazing but overall pretty nice. Everybody’s been really cool,” he told Laura. “Everybody’s been really welcoming.”

Chord previously appeared on “iCarly” and the pilot for ABC’s upcoming “No Ordinary Family.”

“Glee’s” Season 2 premieres on September 21 on FOX.
