Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas On Her Ground-Breaking Win: It’s ‘An Amazing Feeling’

Gymnast Gabby Douglas made Olympic history on Tuesday as the first African-American to win the gold medal for individual all-around and the young athlete is still pinching herself over her inspiring success.

“16 years old making, you know, history – it’s just an amazing feeling!” Gabby, a Virginia native, told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush in a new interview in London. “I woke up speechless!

“Everyone’s Tweeting about me, my name’s trending,” she added. “It’s just an amazing feeling — words cannot describe.”

Among the stars expressing their happiness for Gabby were Oprah and Beyonce, who posted congratulations on her website in a message that read, “A huge congratulations to 16-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas – WOW – what a thrill to watch you take this Gold! I can tell you’ve been working hard for so long – enjoy this moment, it’s yours. Thank you for inspiring all of us! Love, B”

Gabby also heard from quite a few music superstars.

“All the famous celebrities have Tweeted me, like Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Wayne and Trey Songz,” she said. “Everyone is just Tweeting about me!”

Coach Marta Karolyi added that she couldn’t be more proud of Gabby’s consistently excellent performances at the London Games.

“110 percent consistent!” the beaming coach told Billy. “[Gabby put in] three days in a row [without] making any mistakes! It was excellent!”
