LOS ANGELES (December 14, 2006) — When the nominations for the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards were revealed on Thursday morning, as usual, the announcements were filled with snubs and surprises, as well as several Globe newbies.
Among the most surprising stars to be left off the Golden list were “Blood Diamond” star Djimon Hounsou, “Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher and Jamie Foxx, for his performance in “Dreamgirls.”
Even Matt Damon, who had two shots with “The Good Shepherd” and “The Departed,” felt the Golden snub.
– Dustin Hoffman for “Stranger than Fiction”- Sandra Oh for “Grey’s Anatomy”- Chandra Wilson for “Grey’s Anatomy”- Jaime Pressly for “My Name Is Earl”- Vanessa Williams for “Ugly Betty”- Denis Leary for “Rescue Me”- Julian McMahon for “Nip/Tuck”- Matthew Fox for “Lost”- Mariska Hargitay for “Law & Order: SVU”- William Shatner and James Spader for “Boston Legal”- “Studio 60” – Best TV Comedy/Musical- “Flags of Our Fathers” – Best Picture Drama- “Letters From Iwo Jima” – Best Picture Drama
Meanwhile, there were also several surprising nominations. While Sandra Oh was snubbed, “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Katherine Heigl received a supporting nomination. And while “Heroes” has been a ratings juggernaut for NBC, Masi Oka was the only star to snag a nomination – although the show itself is up for Best TV Drama.

Nomination day also marked a first for many stars who earned their very first Golden Globe nod. Beyonce has certainly made her mark in the music business, but now she’s an undeniable force in the movie industry as well, picking up the nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for her “Dreamgirls” role. Also snagging their first Globe nominations were “Lost” beauty Evangeline Lilly, funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen (aka Borat) and Beyonce’s fellow “Dreamgirl” Jennifer Hudson.

The Globes’ lone triple nominee is Helen Mirren, who earned a Best Actress in a Drama nod for “The Queen,” along with two nominations in the Best Actress in a TV Movie or Mini Series for “Elizabeth I” and “Prime Suspect: The Final Act.”
Stars earning double nominations include Clint Eastwood, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt and Beyonce.
Miscellaneous Globe Facts:
– Helen Mirren, Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood will compete against themselves in the Best Actress in a Miniseries/TV Movie, Best Actor Drama and Best Director categories, respectively.
– Two of Helen Mirren’s nominations are for playing Queens: she played Queen Elizabeth I in the HBO Miniseries “Elizabeth I” and Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen.” She won the Emmy this year for “Elizabeth I.”
– Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi, both first time nominees from “Babel,” go up against one another in the Best Supporting Actress category.
