Golden Globes Nomination: The Stars React

The 72nd Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced Thursday morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel – and the nominees couldn’t be more excited!

Here is how Hollywood’s biggest stars reacted following the big news:

Lena Dunham, nominated for “Girls”: “It’s a true joy to return to the Golden Globes this year. We are so grateful to the HFPA for their continued recognition, and we at ‘Girls’ are honored to share a category with such formally daring, forward-thinking shows. We are mega-fans of every one of these programs. As for my fellow comedy actresses, this category continues to be my dream sleepover.”

Viola Davis, nominated for “How To Get Away with Murder”: “Thank you Hollywood Foreign Press for this honor. I’m so thrilled.”

Keira Knightley, nominated for “The Imitation Game”: “I felt so lucky to have portrayed Joan Clarke, such an extraordinary woman who defied convention and was part of a moment in history. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign press for this honor, and for recognizing our film. I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”

Emily Blunt, nominated for “Into the Woods”: “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for embracing the Baker’s Wife and recognizing this film that I am so proud to be a part of. Playing this part made me stretch myself as an actor and muster up any courage I could to find my singing voice. It was so worth it to be a part of Rob Marshall’s beautiful and moving film that means so much to me.”

Clive Owen, nominated for “The Knick”: “This nomination is also a testament to the writers of ‘The Knick’ who provided such rich and riveting material, the fantastic cast and of course to the great Steven Soderbergh. A huge thank you to them and of course the Hollywood Foreign Press for this wonderful honor.”

Amy Adams, nominated for “Big Eyes”: “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this honor. It’s so exciting to be nominated for a film I really enjoyed making and I’m so proud to have been a part of Tim Burton’s vision in sharing Margaret Keane’s story alongside Christoph.”

Eddie Redmayne, nominated for “The Theory of Everything”: “I was in the middle of attempting to do all my holiday shopping in a day when I got the call. I am beyond thrilled to be nominated alongside such a stunning quartet of actors. The fact that Felicity, Johann, and the film are nominated means the world. I am hugely grateful to the HFPA – and to Professor Stephen Hawking for his personal support in helping me to share his story with the world.”

Emma Stone, nominated for “Birdman”: “I have no words. I am so incredibly honored and grateful for this and feel insanely lucky to have had the chance to work with Alejandro, Michael, Edward, and the whole cast and crew of the beautiful madness that is ‘Birdman.’ Now can someone please explain who this ‘Meryl Streep’ woman is?!”‎

Michael Keaton, nominated for “Birdman”: “I’m so honored the HFPA has recognized my performance in ‘BIRDMAN.’ It’s not every day you get to work on this kind of project or with an ensemble of actors as talented and inspiring as this cast and I am so grateful to our director, Alejandro Inarritu, for the opportunity.”

Helen Mirren, nominated for “The Hundred-Foot Journey”: “Merci a les Couilles D’orees C’est Vachement chouette!” (Translation: “Thank you to the golden balls. Its is cowly [damned] nice.”)

Reese Witherspoon, nominated for “Wild”: “I’m extremely thankful that the film is being recognized in this way. ‘WILD’ is truly my baby and was a labor of love from the beginning. Cheryl Strayed was so brave in putting her life’s journey into words and it makes me happy that this type of recognition will hopefully drive more people to experience it on film‎.”

Michelle Monaghan, nominated for “True Detective”: “I’m over the moon! Sincerely. I am so proud to be a part of a series as great as True Detective. I think this might be MY “alright, alright, alright” moment. Woody and Matthew are a dream to work with. They make a gal look good!”

Jake Gylenhaal, nominated for “Nightcrawler”: Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this recognition. It was my job to fit into the skin of this ridiculously original person Dan Gilroy had written on the page, and I loved every ounce of this opportunity. I’m incredibly grateful to Dan and the fantastic team on ‘Nightcrawler.'”

Rob Marshall, nominated for “Into the Woods”: “On behalf of my fellow producers, John DeLuca and Marc Platt, I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for this wonderful honor. I am so proud to have been a part of bringing Sondheim and Lapine’s beloved and profound work to the screen, and equally proud of the extraordinary cast who brought it to life with such passion and heart.”

Felicity Jones, nominated for “The Theory of Everything”: “I’m overjoyed to hear this news! It’s a tremendous feeling to receive recognition for this film amongst a list of so many wonderful actors- an absolute privilege. The greatest thanks to the HFPA, and to Jane Hawking for entrusting me with performing her moving and inspirational life story.”

Jeffrey Tambor, nominated for “Transparent”: It’s tremendous to be honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This is a transformative time with a transformative cast and Jill has created a series that has touched so many lives. We’re like ‘The Little Engine that Could’ and this is a remarkable step on our journey.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, nominated for “The Imitation Game”: “I have just come out of the studio playing Richard the 3rd to this extraordinary news. Wow… I am so thrilled. Also for the recognition the film has received with these nominations. It’s so exciting and rewarding to be in such an extraordinary collection of brilliant performances. Thank you so much.”
