Golden Globes Nominations 2013: Snubs & Surprises!

The 2013 Golden Globe nominations have been announced with quite a few surprises and, as always, some serious snubs!

FILM:

“Les Miserables” got plenty of Golden Globe love (Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and the movie were among the film’s nods) but director Tom Hooper and stars Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Samantha Barks were left out on Thursday morning.

Many thought Robert De Niro would score a nod for his role as an obsessive Philadelphia Eagles fan in “The Silver Linings Playbook,” but the veteran actor was passed over. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence both earned nods, but the film’s director, David O. Russell, was also left out.

Indie and Sundance darling “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” which has been getting plenty of Oscar buzz, was completely shut out of the Globe nominations.

The cast of “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,” Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, both woke up to good news, with a two surprise acting nods and also a nomination for the movie.

Nicole Kidman’s racy performance in “The Paperboy” was a surprise nomination for the actress, who also scored a nod for Best Supporting Actress (for television) for “Hemingway & Gellhorn.”

Anthony Hopkins was also considered a strong contender for “Hitchcock,” but was left out of the pack (the late famed director did however get some Globe love with a Best Actor, Miniseries or Movie nomination for Toby Jones in HBO’s Hitchcock tale, “The Girl”).

TV:

Over on the small screen, usual award show juggernaut “Mad Men” was left out, as were TV favorites “Game of Thrones” and “The Good Wife” (star Julianna Margulies did score a nom).

In the TV comedy world, “30 Rock” and “Parks and Recreation” lead all of the acting noms, but both shows failed to get recognized in the Best Comedy category.

“Modern Family” got a show nod, as did stars Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, but the rest of the cast did not get congratulatory calls on Thursday.

“American Horror Story: Asylum” was also left out of the Best Miniseries or Movie category, but stars Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson did score noms.

The 70th Annual Golden Globes will air live on Sunday, January 13, 2012 at 5 PM PST/8 PM EST on NBC with hosts Amy Poehler & Tina Fey.
