‘Gone Girl’: NIN’s Trent Reznor Previews Eerie Soundtrack

Trent Reznor has given fans a sneak preview of the “Gone Girl” soundtrack – and it’s just as creepy as the highly anticipated movie’s plot.

The Nine Inch Nails frontman premiered a new clip from the David Fincher-directed film’s soundtrack on the NIN website on Friday.

Reznor teamed up with Atticus Ross for the film’s score.

This is not the first time Reznor and Ross have worked together on a Fincher film. The duo composed the score for 2010’s “The Social Network” (for which they earned an Academy Award), and 2011’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” which nabbed a Golden Globe nomination and won a Grammy.

Earlier this month, Reznor revealed Fincher’s inspiration for what he wanted the “Gone Girl” score to sound like.

“He said, ‘Think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors,'” the musician told The Wall Street Journal of the director’s instructions. “‘The way that it artificially tries to make you feel like everything’s OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel.'”

Fincher jumped in with a laugh, saying, “I said a spa, not a massage parlor,” adding that the idea first came to him as he was getting his back adjusted. “I was listening to that calming, placating music and thought, we need to tap into this. The movie is about the façade of the good neighbor, the good Christian, the good wife. So the notion was to start with music that’s attempting to give you a hug.”

“Gone Girl,” which stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, hits theaters on October 3.
