‘Gossip Girl’ Star Ed Westwick Taking Career To New ‘Heights’

Ed Westwick is leaving behind the Upper East Side and taking his career to new “Heights.”

Westwick, who plays the cynical Chuck Bass on The CW’s “Gossip Girl,” will star in the big screen drama “Wuthering Heights,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Joining Westwick in the adaptation of Emily Bronte’s 19th century novel will be Gemma Arterton – the two will play young lovers Heathcliff and Cathy.

Arterton, who has starred in “Quantum of Solace” and “RocknRolla,” stepped into the role after Natalie Portman pulled out of the project.

Peter Webber (“Hannibal Rising;” HBO’s “Six Feet Under”) has been tapped to direct the film.

”[The film is] powerful, moving and dangerous love story that cries out to be told on the big screen,” Webber told the Reporter.

Westwick’s other film credits include the 2006 Jude Law drama “Breaking and Entering” and the 2006 Julianne Moore drama “Children of Men.”

He also stars in the straight to DVD release “S. Darko,” a sequel to the 2001 cult hit “Donnie Darko.” “S. Darko” was released on DVD earlier this month.
