Gossip Of The Week: Analyzing Justin Bieber’s Toxicology Results

Amidst a throng of paparazzi and shouting fans, Justin Bieber turned himself in to Toronto authorities on Wednesday — but it was something else that caught our eye for this week’s celebrity gossip roundup.

The singer was booked for an assault charge related to an altercation that happened last December, in which he allegedly hit a limo driver in the Canadian city. Justin’s attorney claims his client is innocent.

The charge marked Justin’s third contact with police since January 14. That’s when the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department raided the pop icon’s Calabasas mansion in connection with alleged vandalism in an egg-throwing probe.

However, the most telling thing that occurred in the last couple of days wasn’t any of the above. Rather, it was the results of the superstar’s toxicology test taken after his DUI arrest that were released by Miami Beach police on Thursday. This is the same case Justin’s attorney entered a not guilty plea for– this week as well.

According to the documents, the embattled Canadian tested positive for THC (a substance in marijuana) and the anti-anxiety drug Alprazolam (otherwise known as Xanax). Also included in the results was more uplifting news– Justin tested negative for amphetamines, cocaine, methamphetamines, opiates, Oxycodone and Zolpidem. Phew.

While I’m not a fan of the Biebs, and I’m not a supporter of drug usage, property defacement or operating vehicles impaired, seeing this paperwork was actually a welcome relief for me. As an entertainment journalist, I have heard my fair share of gossip surrounding the teenager and I never really knew who or what to believe. Now with scientific data before my very eyes I am able to better understand what has been going on with the 19-year-old entertainer.

It’s simple really. JB’s been partying. But the point is — he could have been caught partying harder. There is in fact, a certain amount of self-control that goes into these types of personal limits, even for gazillionaire child stars, and it’s good to know the boy still has some.

Today a new report claims, based on GPS records, Justin was not speeding on January 23, though the Miami Beach police tells Access Hollywood they stand by their officer who observed Justin drag racing that morning. On top of that, there are rumors circulating online that authorities have been unable to pin the eggcident on Justin based on the surveillance video they found at his house.

So maybe there is hope he’ll be saved, after all.
