Gossip Of The Week: Justin Bieber’s Egg Incident

Who exactly egged Justin Bieber’s neighbor’s house? Was it the pop star himself? Or perhaps, was it somebody else who was staying with him?

After an entire week of media speculation, a news conference and an arrest, I am disappointed to say we are still nowhere close to cracking Bieber’s vandalism case, the subject of this week’s celebrity gossip roundup.

The buzz began on January 9, when a video was posted online of Justin’s neighbor yelling obscenities at an unidentifiable person, after his mansion was attacked by eggs. The problem is the footage is dark and you can’t really make out who the culprit is. Not to worry — by the time Tuesday rolled around, the Los Angeles County Sheriff declared in a vague press conference at Lost Hills they had searched the singer’s Calabasas residence, in connection with the accusations that Justin was behind the eggcident.

On a more annoying note, let’s not forget the daily drama that followed the announcement. Justin’s buddy, rapper Lil Za, was arrested the same day for alleged possession of drugs. According to the LASD, the illegal substance was left in “plain sight” at Justin’s pad when authorities searched his property. Za – whose real name is Xavier Smith — was later booked and released on bail.

On Thursday, JB’s friend sounded off on the matter, Tweeting “The media is making me someone I’m not.” Za also pulled the race card as the reason he felt he was being targeted, adding, “Some stuff I’ve done has been wrong yes. but look at the position I’m in and the color of my skin. Cocaine? Really?”

Meanwhile, authorities have been quick to defend themselves from criticism that they’re over-investigating the case.

“None of this has anything to do with him being a celebrity,” Lt. Dave Thompson told reporters. “This could be Mr. Bieber, this could be you this could be me, this could be anybody.”

Sure. That’s why there were a dozen officers at Justin’s place and choppers capturing their every move overhead. And what about the press conference that could have easily been scaled down by the cops into a one-page press release? I recognize that defacing property is wrong and I really do hope that whoever is responsible will own up to the events and the damage caused.

However, I just don’t think what’s happened so far is a proper deployment of government resources. In fact, you might say the police efforts surrounding the Bieber investigation are a bit egg-cessive.
