Gossip Of The Week: Who Is Ronan Farrow’s Father?

It may have taken more than two decades, but this week, it looks like Mia Farrow finally got her revenge on her ex, Woody Allen.

You may recall that the film director scandalously made headlines back in 1992 when, at the age of 56, it was exposed that he was in a relationship with 21-year-old Soon-Yi Previn, Mia’s adopted daughter.

Mia reportedly stumbled upon their affair when she found nude photos of Soon-Yi taken in Woody’s Manhattan duplex, according to a People magazine article at the time. A custody battle over Mia and Woody’s one biological spawn followed and the gossip tarnished Woody’s reputation.

This week, Vanity Fair released their interview with Mia Farrow to the media, in which the actress claimed their son Ronan Farrow may have been “possibly” fathered by Frank Sinatra and not Woody.

Mia followed up that remark with another, clarifying that no DNA tests have been done. It was a scandalous revelation. Access Hollywood put in phone calls to Vanity Fair, Woody and Mia – though none of them were returned.

The timing was odd and strangely deliberate.

That same day, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Ronan was in discussions to host his own program on MSNBC. The Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law grad also put in his own two cents online, tweeting “Listen, we’re all *possibly* Frank Sinatra’s son.”

The one person who did speak directly to reporters during the fallout was Frank’s widow, Barbara Sinatra. She dismissed the rumors to The Desert Sun and said, “I can’t hardly believe that. It’s just a bunch of junk. There’s always junk written – lies that aren’t true.”

As an onlooker to this situation, I can’t help but believe that what unfolded was an awful PR move on Mia’s part. Sure, Mia is in the Hollywood spotlight once again because of her son’s new relevancy, but I found it terribly abusive that she redirected all the attention from her kid to herself by bringing a famous deceased lover into the picture.

Mia could have easily not commented when asked about Frank’s connection to Ronan’s paternity. If the intent was to remind the public of Woody’s alleged wrongdoings, the quotes from her daughter Dylan were ammunition enough even amidst Woody’s past denials.

Sure, Ronan would have received less publicity in the moment, but in the long run, he would have entered the race a lot cleaner.
