Grammys: 5 Fun Facts From The 2015 Nominations

Nominations for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on Friday and here are five fun pieces of trivia about some standout nominees.

1. Joan’s Posthumous Honor

Sadly, Joan Rivers won’t be critiquing Grammy style on “Fashion Police” following the red carpet this year, but the late entertainer will very much be a part of the show.

The comedienne was nominated posthumously in the category of best spoken word album for “Diary of a Mad Diva.” “Fashion Police” co-host Giuliana Rancic and son Duke announced all the nominees in the category in a video posted on Twitter on Friday. This is Joan’s second Grammy nomination. She was previously nominated for best comedy recording in 1983.

2. Beyonce Widens The Gap

After Beyonce passed Dolly Parton last year for music’s most Grammy-nominated woman, Bey expanded her lead this year with even more nominations. What wonderful news for Queen Bey to wake up to! And sorry Dolly, you may need to pick that 9 to 5 job back up and hit the studio again if you want to regain your throne!

With her latest nominations for best R&B performance, best R&B song, best urban contemporary album, best surround sound album, and best music film, Beyonce broke the record she set last year. The bar is now set at 52 total noms. The Carters’ mantel is getting awfully crowded.

3. Tight Race

Beyonce is still in one tied race and that’s with Sam Smith. At the moment, the two artists are neck-and-neck with the most nods of the year. They have five apiece, but more categories will be announced later on Friday.

4. In A League Of Their Own

Hope it’s not getting lonely at the top for U2. The rockers have racked up a total of 46 nominations. When news broke of their best rock album nom for “Songs Of Innocence,” the group became the most Grammy-nominated group in history.

5. Miley’s New High

Miley Cyrus hit a new high today! She wrecked it with her first Grammy nomination ever for best pop vocal album for “Bangerz.”
