Haylie Duff Dishes Proposal Details: ‘ I Thought It Was An April Fool’s Joke’

Haylie Duff is newly-engaged– her boyfriend, Matt Rosenberg, proposed to her in April.

The 29-year-old (Hilary Duff’s sister) stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Monday, where she shared how Matt casually popped the question.

“I was making dinner and it was just sort like a normal night… I was literally like, my face in the refrigerator, like, ‘What do you want for dinner? Do you want chicken? Do you want this?’ and he wasn’t responding to me,” Haylie told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “I turned around and he was [holding a ring].”

Matt did not get down on one knee for the big moment, and it just so happened to be on April 1 – which caused Haylie to think it was a prank.

“It happened on April Fool’s Day, so instantly I was sweaty and crying and I thought it was an April Fool’s joke. I was like, ‘This is the meanest April Fool’s joke you could ever possibly do!’” she said. “But I couldn’t have imagined it any sweeter and it was exactly how I would’ve wanted it to happen.”

In addition to wedding planning, Haylie has a new show premiering Saturday on the Cooking Channel (“Real Girl’s Kitchen”), which shows the bride to be cooking and out and about in Los Angeles with friends and family.

“When I came up with the title, it was sort of like the thing where I’m not a professionally trained chef – I’m a self-taught cook. I’ve learned by trial and error,” she said, when asked how she came up with the show’s title. “I’m like a real girl in the kitchen and that’s sort of where the name came from.”

“Real Girl’s Kitchen” premieres Saturday at 2 PM on the Cooking Channel.
