Healthy Holllywood: Try It On Tuesday — Homemade Cards For Mom!

Mother’s Day is Sunday! Healthy Hollywood hopes all you sons and daughters out there have thought (at least for a moment) what to do for mom on her special day. Cards, flowers and a nice brunch are always a nice way to say “I love you.”

But, as a mom, I can tell you nothing means more than something homemade from my daughter. While, she’s now 17 and the days of cute Crayola drawn cards are sadly over, she still does something special every year – whether it’s make me breakfast or simply spend the day away from her friends and with me for a change.

But, I can confess that I saved every one of those “cute” cards from past Mother’s Day. So, Healthy Hollywood’s suggestion is to toss the store bought ones and gather up the kids and make a card from scratch – trust me nothing will touch a mom deeper. I cried every year!

Healthy Hollywood’s favorite party planner, Mark Addison, suggests playing up the nostalgic nature of this day by creating a “Love Chain” Card made by the entire family with photos and memories of special moments from childhood all the way to the present. Each person can have their own section of the chain and write special notes to mom or attach a photo. Yes, the happy tears will be in full flow mode.

“By printing, cutting-out and attaching the shapes; flowers, heart, boy figure, girl figure, note section and letter M-O-M you can create a customized paper chain card for your mother,” shares Mark.

On today’s Access Hollywood Live, Mark surprised Kit Hoover with a Love Chain card from her kids and showed Billy Bush how to make one for his wife, Sydney. He shares with Healthy Hollywood the instructions to make a Mother’s Day – Love Chain Card.

1. Using your home printer, print your selected shapes on white card stock. The shapes can be found on Mark’s website. (www.markaddison.com)

2. Cut the shapes along the thin black line using scissors, making sure to cut out the tabs on each shape.

3. Layout the shapes in the order you would like your card.

4. Join the shapes together using double stick tape, overlapping the right shape over the left shape covering the dotted line.

5. Using a single hole puncher to punch holes in the left tab of the first shape and the right tab of the last shape. Tie ribbon or string to the hold to hang up and display the card later.

6. Fold the card at the joined seams to create and accordion fold.

7. Decorate your card with your choice of craft materials.
