Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – 30-Day Slimdown!

OK, so maybe you didn’t shed the extra pounds by Memorial Day. No worries! Set your sights for a beach-ready body by summer’s next big holiday – July 4th. Wellness expert Kathy Freston has a doable plan that will have you slimmed down in a month. “Weight loss doesn’t have to be hard. It’s about setting an intention for what you want, weight and health wise, and then nudging yourself ever so gently in that direction. It’s about making choices to eat foods that are delicious and filling and supportive of your weight loss goals.”

Kathy’s new book, “The Lean,” is about teaching folks to lean into a healthier eating plan by crowding out the junk/poor eating habits and replacing them with better food choices. Kathy’s “Lean” plan spotlights small steps you can take every day for 30 days – steps that will lead to weight loss and an overall sense of wellbeing. “Some days you’ll be adding new foods and others you’ll be switching out one food for another. There will also be assignments that have to do with fulfilling emotional needs, because again, it’s not just about food itself.”

Here are a few of Kathy’s lean tips:

1. Have an apple a day. The fiber fills you up and keeps your blood sugar steady. Plus, the pectin from apples is twice as good as other fibers, because it takes twice as long to leave your stomach.

2. Put flax on it. Add 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed somewhere in your day. The fiber-rich flax can be added to smoothies, salads, or stirred into soups.

3. Eat a superfood. Blueberries, chia seeds and kale are all nutrient-dense foods that can increase the vital force in your body so that you can detoxify.

4. Change up cheese. Eliminate cheese made from cow’s or goat’s milk. Dairy products hinder weight loss. Instead, have a plant-based cheese, like nuts, soy, or tapioca.

5. Back away from sugar. Sugar adds pounds to the hips, has no nutritional value and kicks off craving for more sugary sweets. If need extra sweetness, try alternative likes stevia or agave.
