Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – ‘Glee’s’ Heather Morris Is Smart On Nutrition!

She might be “Glee’s” resident ditz, but off-camera Heather is anything but – especially when it comes to smart advice on eating.

The actress, 24, flaunts the results of her healthy living by rocking a bikini on the cover of June’s Women’s Health magazine. Inspired to eat better? It’s hard not to be!

Heather admits to Women’s Health that she didn’t always eat well. She once lost a dance job because her “butt was too big” and that scrutiny set-off an unhealthy pattern of eating. “It got in my head,” adds Heather. “I tried to be a vegan. It worked—[I lost weight]—but I hated it.” Then, she tried the caveman diet, adding, “You eat nuts, veggies, and berries.”

Today, Heather has a healthier relationship with food. “I try to eat how your mother wanted you to eat when you were younger,” Heather reveals to Women’s Health. “I don’t eat after 8 p.m. When you were little, you never did.”

As the saying goes, “we are what we eat!” The right nutrition helps us live longer and look better. Food expert Sara Kate Gillingham-Ryan, who is Eucerin’s Skin First Ambassador and founder of Apartment Therapy’s TheKitchn.com, shares with Healthy Hollywood her favorite eat well/look better tips.

5 Healthy Tips for Great Skin

1) Water
Yes, good old water. The eight-glasses-a-day rule has so many benefits, including skin health. Staying hydrated benefits the health and appearance of your skin since even a touch of dehydration can cause visible dryness, which over time leads to visible aging. Being hydrated not only helps move nutrients and toxins through the body via digestion, it also helps us sweat better, which is another way our bodies get the toxins out. You can also calculate how much to drink each day by taking half your body weight in ounces, i.e. if you weigh 140lbs, drink 70 ounces.

2) Yogurt
It has vitamin A, which promotes healthy skin cells, but it also has acidophilus and other live, active cultures, which benefit digestion. Proper digestion seems to go hand in hand with skin health.

3) Foods High In Antioxidants, Lke Blueberries
Also, try blackberries, and strawberries – they’re antioxidants that protect skin cells from sun exposure. Of course, they are no substitute for sunscreen, protective clothing and limiting your time in the sun, but they do appear to deflect some of the damage caused by free radicals, which comes from sun damage.

4) Green Tea
Green tea has a specific antioxidant called catechin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. The catechin is at its best when heated, so drink green tea hot!

5) Foods High in Essential Fatty Acids Like Fish
Omega-3 and Omega-6 can protect cell membranes. Omega-3s especially are difficult to get in a regular diet. Fish and flax seed oils are rich in Omega-3, as are walnuts and walnut oil.
