Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Stars Love Their Smoothies!

Stars love a sip to good health. Smoothies are the go-to drink for health conscious celebs. Liv Tyler and Fergie both credit a veggie-packed smoothie with improving their complexion and giving them more energy. And, they’re not the only celebs drinking their vegetables. Alicia Silverstone, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow — even teen icon Justin Bieber have all been photographed sipping on healthy concoctions.

“Many people rarely eat the recommended daily servings of fruit and vegetables, but smoothies allow you to increase your fruit and vegetable intake in a tasty, simple way,” reveals Anne Thacker, who is a nutritionist for blending master Vitamix.

Smoothies are perfect in today’s fast-paced world for the famous and the rest of us working folks. “Smoothies are quick to make and easily portable – whether pre-made in the morning and poured into a thermos or shaker to drink when get to work, or quickly blended together as a mid-day snack,” adds Anne.

Plus, there is no right or wrong way to make a smoothie. “The base for most smoothies is either ice or liquid (such as water, milk or juice), followed by vegetables and fruits. If you’re looking to really ramp up your greens intake, add any combination of romaine lettuce, kale, collard greens, spinach, and even some parsley. Then, to sweeten the smoothie, add a ripe fruit or two,” reveals Anne.

Vitamix, which is considered the Rolls Royce of blenders, has the skinny on lots of different smoothie recipes. The Vitamix folks shared two with Healthy Hollywood.
