Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin’ Monday – ‘Glee’s’ Sassy Santana Shares Her Fitness Tips!

Gleeks rejoice! As “Glee’s” resident bad girl Santana, Naya Rivera dishes about how she stays in Cheerios shape.

Naya reveals in the November/December issue of Fitness magazine, “Legs and butt get the most attention in the Cheerios uniform, so those are my target areas. Lots of squats!”

The 23-year-old actress admits she hates doing crunches, but knows she needs fab abs. Her solution? “I do planks – traditional and side planks – instead for my abs.”

Before finding her call as an actress, Naya reveals to Fitness that she had an athletic past, adding, “ My Dad always wanted me to be sporty, so I tried softball. I was 12 and tiny, and all the other girls were huge and looked 25. I was too afraid to bat the ball.”

Safe to say she’s found the right gig now on Fox’s hit “Glee”!

Want to get in “Glee”-tastic shape? Fitness magazine shares their version of Naya’s two favorite fitness moves.

No Crunches: Try Prone Plank:
Get into full pushup position with your palms on the floor beneath your shoulders. Hold here for 30 seconds, with your abs contracted and your arms and legs extended and your head aligned with your spine. As you build strength, hold this position longer, up to one minute.

Plyometric Squat:
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Squat down, bending your knees to 90 degrees. Now jump up and land softly again in the squat position. Use the strength in your legs and butt to jump up explosively. Remember to land as softly as you can with your knees bent; keep your weight back over your heels. Do 3 sets of 8 reps.
