Healthy Hollywood: Healthy Tailgating Tips

Football season is in full swing and for many that can mean the diet takes a hit on Sunday afternoons – but that doesn’t have to be the case!

Healthy Hollywood met up with some famous football fans at NFL’s Hall of Fashion event in New York City to hear how they manage to stay in shape while enjoying the festivities.

For pop superstar Jordin Sparks, football is a family affair. Her father, Phillippi, played in the NFL for nine years and her brother is a running back at the University of North Dakota.

Jordin even gets into the spirit of the game with her own fantasy football team. When it comes to keeping on track during football season, she says it’s all about portion control.

“You got to make it small. Make everything small and you’ll never go wrong,” Jordin told Healthy Hollywood.

She recently tailgated at one of her brother’s games and was tempted by a grilled cheese food truck but found the perfect solution.

“I had everybody else get one I took a bite of my grandpa’s and I was good to go,” she laughed.

When she’s watching the game at home, she has a few go-to healthy options.

“I like guacamole and carrots which is a little healthier than chips but my cousin turned me onto it and it’s so good, you should try it. And I love club soda. Club soda with a little flavoring in it makes it fun for me,” she told Healthy Hollywood.

Victoria’s Secret stunner Erin Heatherton is a big supporter of the Chicago Bears, but finds a way to keep her model figure throughout the season.

“I am a runner, I like to run and do yoga. I do a bit of ballet, I do a bit of ModelFit with my old trainer Justin Gelband,” Erin told Healthy Hollywood.

She also loves getting out and playing sports herself.

“I grew up playing sports and being athletic is really part of my life … Playing basketball’s also a great workout and I do a bit of that in my free time,” she said.

But when it comes to snacking during the game, Erin likes to keep it simple with some popcorn.

Former NFL player Andre Reed keeps fit during his retirement by maintaining an athlete’s focus in his day-to-day life.

“I’m still in the gym a lot, I’ve been retired 14 years and I think it’s a lifestyle…It’s a lifestyle to me. I love doing it. It’s part of what my makeup is about,” Reed told Healthy Hollywood.

He told us staying fit is about making that decision every day.

“You wake up every day and you have a choice to make whatever it is you know I choose to play golf a lot and go to the gym and make sure my kids are alright,” he said.

While football season can be a paradise of buffalo wings, chips and salsa, these three fans have found a way to keep fit while cheering their teams to victory – and you can too!
