Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Make A Cancer Patient’s Day Beautiful

Who doesn’t love a day of beauty? Whether it’s a mani/pedi or a massage – they’re all feel-good luxuries that lift our spirits and make us feel fabulous!

Want to feel even more fabulous? Why not give a day of beauty to someone special in your life who is battling cancer. Fighting cancer may be one of the toughest life challenges a woman faces – and a spa treatment allows her to escape (even momentarily) the difficulties in her life. “Often times people dealing with cancer, either as patient or caregiver, feel like they have been taken out of their lives,” reveals Jennifer Coulombe of the American Cancer Society. “They must stop everything to deal with their diagnosis and this often includes taking time to be pampered or relax. A massage or pedicure helps anyone feel refreshed or renewed, but for someone going through such a stressful time this becomes even more meaningful,” adds Jennifer.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the gals behind FlipOut Sandals hosted a day of beauty at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in New York City. Hope Lodge is a free of a charge housing facility for cancer patients who are traveling from out of state to NYC for treatment. There are 31 Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States. “Once we learned about the Hope Lodge mission and the incredible services they offer residents free of charge, we knew we wanted to help out in any small way that we could,” states FlipOut Sandals co-owner, Tracey Hunter. “We’re a company that changed the ordinary sandal to a sparkling attention grabbing accessory, and we took that same idea to bring a day of glitz and glam to the Hope Lodge.”

FlipOut Sandals transformed Hope Lodge’s common room into a spa and treated patients and staff to different luxury services. “It’s like feeling like a woman again for a moment, you forget the everyday appointments in the hospital and you break away from the hospital routine. This made my day,” beamed Hope Lodge resident Carol.

Spending time with a cancer patient, and providing them with a special spa treat is a wonderful way to say – I care! “When a friend or family member is going through this kind of terrible experience, it is a beautiful thing to offer your time to take their mind off things,” reveals Tracy. “Take them out to coffee or shopping, or bring a few shades of nail polish and give them your own best attempt at a manicure. Offering your support as friend is a truly beautiful thing.”

25% of the proceeds from the sale of FlipOut Sandals’ Pink Jelly Sandals and all pink shoe jewelry will be donated to the American Cancer Society throughout October. Head to www.flipoutsandals.com
