Heidi Klum’s ‘Intimate’ Connection To ‘Scandal’

Heidi Klum was excited to learn that a bra she designed was used in a pivotal scene in an episode of “Scandal.”

While Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) was being held hostage by terrorists earlier this season, she resourcefully attempted to use the underwire from her bra to escape through a bathroom window.

“Obviously I was very excited that Kerry Washington used one of my bras for ‘Scandal’ and [it was] a huge thing for me because everyone wanted to know what bra she used and it was Heidi Klum Intimates and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe she used my bra in that scene!'” Heidi told Access Hollywood on Friday at the launch of her lingerie collection, Heidi Klum Intimates, at Bloomingdale’s in New York City. “I didn’t know. It wasn’t like anyone told me before. It was afterwards [that I found out]. I was honored and happy, you know, because also it got my name out there in the lingerie world, so I was very happy about that.

“I didn’t know that you could break out of a room with an underwire, but, as you can see, you can make that happen,” she joked.

Heidi Klum Instagrammed a scene from ‘Scandal’ on February 15, 2015 in which Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) tried to escape captivity by using the underwire of a bra from the Heidi Klum Intimates collection. The model captioned the still, ‘You can do anything with @heidiklumintimates, right #OliviaPope? #ScandalStyle @kerrywashington @scandalabc’ (Instagram)

Heidi also explained how much thought she put in to designing versatile lingerie for the everyday woman.

“Most women wear one bra, you know, a day or maybe two if they change for a sexy occasion at night with a beautiful dress or something like that… The technology in bras, you know, changes as quickly as cell phones do. [I wanted] to make the underwire more comfortable [and] the plunging necklines,” she said. “There’s so many unusual bras that we need nowadays because so many tops are sometimes so crazy that you don’t know what kind of underwear to wear with [it], so I keep all those things in mind and you have to be a little bit more creative.”

The “America’s Got Talent” judge said she relied on her modeling experience to develop practical and innovative bras for her clientele.

“I love lingerie. I’m a woman and I’ve been modeling lingerie for the past 15 years and so I know a thing or two about lingerie, I feel. And now I get to design my own and I’m super excited about it,” she said, adding, “I tried to make the line sexier even though some of the [styles] women have loved for the last 25 years — I’m gonna keep certain styles and I’m just gonna change the look of them, but I will add a lot of new pieces to the collection.”
