Homeland Season 2 Details: Carrie Mathison’s Future As CIA Agent Revealed!

The stellar first season of Showtime’s “Homeland” left CIA agent Carrie Mathison’s life in complete disarray and Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody poised to infiltrate the government – so how will the unorthodox ex-government agent stop the possible sleeper cell terrorist?

Access Hollywood caught up with “Homeland” executive producer Howard Gordon at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego on Thursday, where he spilled Season 2 details.

(SPOILER ALERT!)

“We’re picking up the story about six months later [when Season 2 starts]. [Carrie] is in a very fragile place… She’s sort of convalesced and she’s back in life, but not at the job she’s been working at for her adult life,” Gordon told Access.

So how does Carrie (played by Claire Danes) work her way back into the CIA after being ousted?

“There is a threat of an attack on U.S. soil and there’s a source in the Middle East that will only talk to Carrie,” he revealed.

As for Brody (played by Damian Lewis), he’ll have a new life in the U.S. government.

“His career has emerged in the last six months as a Congressman, and his ascent will continue,” Gordon continued.

As for Claire’s pregnancy – earlier this month the actress announced that she and husband Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child – the crew plans on using some camera tricks to avoid showing her growing baby bump.

“We’ll get progressively closer on her [as the season progresses],” Gordon said, explaining that the timing of her pregnancy and their shooting schedule will match up well.

“Homeland” returns of Season 2 on September 30, 2012 on Showtime.
