How Laila Ali Avoids Packing On Pregnancy Pounds

Laila Ali Avoids Additional Pregnancy Weight Gain; Plans To Teach Her Kids About Grandfather Muhammed Ali

Laila Ali is gearing up for the birth of her second child – a daughter – in another month, but she’s managed to avoid some of the pitfalls of pregnancy.

“There’s no extra weight gain,” the former “Dancing with the Stars” contender told Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Wednesday.

The former professional boxer said she’s managed to not put on extra pounds by paying attention to what she consumes.

“I have to watch what I eat,” she said. “I’m a big girl to begin with so I’m walking around like 205 right now. Big girl.”

On Wednesday night, Laila will be taking part in Heart Truth’s Red Dress Fashion Show, to help raise awareness for heart disease, and despite being eight-months pregnant, the Subway spokesperson is proud to be a part of the program.

“I’m looking forward to being the only pregnant girl in the fashion show with my red dress,” she laughed. “I’m gonna strut my stuff… down that runway and it’s always great to be a part of something that’s for a good cause. Heart disease is the leading killer of women and I’m just happy to be a part of this event.”

Laila is already a mom – to son Curtis Muhammad, 2 – with husband and ex-NFL star Curtis Conway, and she said her dad, boxing and civil rights hero Muhammed Ali is a big fan of his grandchildren.

“My dad has 11 grandkids and this will be his 12th — my daughter,” she told Billy and Kit. “He loves it. My son is the first grandchild that actually looks like him, so he loves it and he has his middle name — little Curtis Muhammed.”

Still just a toddler, Curtis isn’t yet aware of his grandfather’s contributions to society. Laila does plan to teach him all about grandfather Ali.

“He’s gonna know his granddad’s history and why he’s consider to be such a great man — the important things: who he is [as] a man outside of the ring,” she said. “I grew up with my dad as an example and that’s why, what it turned me into the person that I am, so I’m definitely going to use him as an example.”
