The pilot responsible for orchestrating the safe landing of US Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River earlier this month will be honored at Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, the NFL announced today.
Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III, as well as other members of the plane’s flight crew, will be recognized on the field for “helping safely rescue 150 passengers on New York’s Hudson River,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said on Thursday.
Sullenberger, first officer Jeffrey B. Skiles and flight attendants Donna Dent, Doreen Welsh and Sheila Dail will be on the field prior to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals squaring off at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Later in the month, “Sully” and his flight crew will pay a visit to the set of “The Late Show with David Letterman,” marking their first late night TV show appearance. The interview will air February 10, CBS announced on Thursday.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the pre-game festivities for Super Bowl XLIII will also include John Legend, Faith Hill singing “America The Beautiful” and Jennifer Hudson performing the National Anthem.
In addition, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will perform during halftime.
“It’s an impressive lineup,” McCarthy added. “It will certainly be emotional.”
Super Bowl XLIII will air live on February 1 on NBC.
