‘Idol’ Runner-Up David Archuleta Inks Record Deal

“American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta has inked his first record deal.

Archuleta has signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, Access Hollywood has learned.

“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” Archuleta said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “Being a fan of ‘American Idol’ since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I’m really excited to start working on everything.”

“Archie,” the 17-year-old singer from Utah, is already starting to make his mark with fans, earning three songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart — his “Idol” cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” his rendition of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” and “In This Moment,” the song her performed during the “Idol” finale.

“Without question David Archuleta has a great future ahead of him,” said “Idol” creator Simon Fuller.

Archuleta’s debut album is expected later this year.

In other “Archie” news, sadly it appears fans in his hometown won’t be catching a glimpse of the singer as they had planned.

A thank-you concert planned by his father, Jeff Archuleta, for fans in the Salt Lake City area has been nixed, according to The Associated Press.

“Idol” officials reportedly called off the show, noting that the teen is under contract for the summer “American Idol Live” tour.

But fear not Utah fans – the “Idol” tour will be playing back-to-back dates on July 14-15 in West Valley City, Utah.
