Inside The Independent Spirit Awards Backstage Gift Lounge

Before Hollywood’s big night at the Oscars, the stars hit the beach for the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica.

Backstage, some of the attendees popped in to the Official Presenter Gift Lounge to pick up some great items – for a great cause, with Breyers Gelato Indulgences making a donation to charity on behalf of the celebrities who visited the lounge.

Some highlights from inside the Gift Lounge included:

After winning the award for Best Actress, “Blue Jasmine” star Cate Blanchett braved the storm to pop into the Breyers Gelato Indulgences gift lounge and ran back to the main tent to catch the rest of the show.

Rosario Dawson and her mom Isabel Celeste hit up the gift lounge in style, even playfully feeding each other the Breyers Gelato Indulgences. The duo also stopped by the Dark Horse Wine booth and got their geek gadget fix thanks to the DJI Phantom 2 Vision flying camera. The flying camera was particularly intriguing because Rosario is working on a documentary to teach girls to surf in Sierra Leone.

Krysten Ritter ponied up to a little competition backstage in the Gift Lounge, where she played for a chance to win a year-supply of Dark Horse Wine, while she was dishing details of the upcoming “Veronica Mars” movie.

“Arrested Development” funnyman Jason Bateman met with friends and inquired about the DJI Phantom 2 Vision flying camera, joking, “Can it fly under dresses? I want it so I can take it and fly it up all the girls’ skirts.”

Star of the upcoming “Fantastic Four” Miles Teller enjoyed some Sabra hummus while watching the live feed of Lupita Nyong’o accepting her award for Best Supporting Actress. Teller was enamored by Nyong’o’s dedication to her mother and couldn’t be distracted while she appeared on the screen. Once Nyong’o took her seat, Teller proved to be the ultimate tech aficionado, asking a number of questions about the lightweight feel of the DJI Phantom 2 Vision flying camera and its smartphone feature.

“American Horror Story” vixen Angela Bassett stopped by the gift lounge where she was overheard talking about her perfect date night, which includes “being comfy in my pj’s with snacks that are a little sweet, a little salty and a little crunchy.” Bassett played her first-ever game of Plinko and chatted strategy, saying that it’s best to “overcompensate and go a little more to the left or right in order to win.” It worked – she won a year supply of wine from Dark Horse Wine and joked that the year’s supply would only last her six months.

“American Hustle” actor Jeremy Renner popped in and picked up a silk pillow and eyemask from Manito Linens, noting that he needs the product because he’s been “traveling to London back and forth for a while now.” Wonder why?

“Glee” star Jane Lynch broke her juice cleanse while eating Breyers Gelato Indulgences and Sabra hummus. After slipping on New Balance Fresh Foam 980 sneakers, Jane discussed the value of the Film Independent Spirit Awards, citing the fact that “people mortgage houses” and “max out credit cards” in order to make these films which, to her, demonstrates an incredibly strong desire to “tell stories with genuine character.” Jane also scooped up hair care from Tibolli, the TiVo Roamio Plus with Product Lifetime Service, silk Manito Linens, the chocolate metallic cranberry ombre clutch from Carlos Falchi Couture which she wore right out of the Lounge, and products from the Murad skincare collection.

When asked about his perfect date night, “Girls” star Alex Karpovsky replied, “I haven’t been on a date in 20 years!” Every bit as eloquent and thought-provoking as his character Ray, Karpovsky tried on New Balance Fresh Foam 980 sneakers and also spoke about what the Spirit Awards means to him: “These are stories to be told in ways that aren’t formulated.”

“Late Night with Seth Meyers” bandleader Fred Armisen mused about his “afflicting personality,” saying that his habit of “eating granola and muesli for breakfast wholeheartedly contradicts the fact that he can eat sweets forever on end.” Armisen said that, at this point, he “loves [his] life and everything he does because [he’s] living an absolute dream.” The actor-director-producer-writer-singer made sure to pick up the DJI Phantom 2 Vision flying camera for future projects.

“American Hustle” actress Elisabeth Rohm paid a visit to the lounge, where she scopped up items like Manito Linens, Fashion Forms, Tibolli hair care, the TiVo Roamio Plus with Product Lifetime Service, a limited edition bag from Carlos Falchi Couture, products from the Murad Skincare collection, and a Crunch 1-Year gym membership.

“Blue Jasmine” actress and Best Supporting Female nominee Sally Hawkins exuded pure sophistication in a head-to-toe printed, collared dress and matching clutch from UK designer Holly Fulton. Hawkins caught up with Blue Jasmine co-star Andrew Dice Clay and sampled Sabra hummus with veggies – fortunately she didn’t get any of the delicious dip on her gorgeous dress!

The lounge was produced by On 3 Productions, the leader in celebrity gifting backstage at entertainment’s most exclusive events.
