Intelligence: Marg Helgenberger On Playing Josh Holloway’s ‘Smart’ & ‘Strong’ Boss

“CSI” alum Marg Helgenberger is back on CBS Tuesday night, starring alongside Josh Holloway in the series premiere of new drama “Intelligence.”

In the series, Josh’s character, Gabriel, has a microchip in his head, giving him a major edge in the field while solving crimes, fighting espionage and running away from bad guys. Marg plays his boss at the government’s Cyber-Security Agency, Director Lillian Strand.

“She’s very smart, very strong, very competent… enigmatic, as well,” Marg told AccessHollywood.com. “But… the buck stops with me. I think [my character] is one of those kind of people — everybody admires people like that because they certainly don’t expect anybody else to accept responsibility for anything.”

It’s Lillian who brings Secret Service Agent Riley Neal (“Once Upon a Time’s Meghan Ory) in on the secret regarding Gabriel, recruiting her to protect the man who is the government’s most “powerful weapon,” per Marg.

“I see a young version of myself in her somewhat,” Marg explained of how Lillian looks at Riley. “But also, I just think she’s somebody who’s obviously very skilled at what she does in her position in the Secret Service. But, I think that she’s somebody who I can completely rely on and count on and a very bright, energetic, trustworthy person.”

The series has some futuristic cyber twists, but during Access’ recent visit to the show’s set, Josh actually admitted he isn’t caught up at all with technology on a personal level.

“I’ve sent two e-mails and one said ‘test,’ pretty much,” he laughed.

As for Marg, she’s got it all down.

“I’ve sent a few more than two,” she laughed. “I wouldn’t consider myself a technological wizard by any stretch of the imagination. I do the basic stuff really. I actually do have a Twitter account. I not a big Tweeter. I don’t really see myself actually becoming one. But, you know, who knows? Maybe I could change my tune.
