James Cameron: Angelina Jolie As Cleopatra Is ‘A Slam Dunk’

Hollywood is buzzing about the possibility of Angelina Jolie playing Cleopatra – and now, she’s got director James Cameron rooting for her to play the queen of Egypt.

“There’s a Cleopatra project in work, meaning that it’s been in development at Sony. And it’s a subject that’s always fascinated me. So yeah, I’ve been talking to them about it but no decisions have been made. But it sounds hot, doesn’t it? I mean, Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra? To me, that’s like a slam dunk. Whether I wind up doing it or not, I think it’s going to be a great project,” the director told The New York Times.

The Oscar winner explained he’s not concerned about those who don’t want to see Angelina play the iconic character.

“There were a lot of people betting against us on ‘Titanic’ as well. That kind of stuff isn’t particularly daunting to me,” he continued. “The idea of 10-foot-tall blue people that were 100 percent CG, it was Smurf Planet, plenty of reasons why ‘Avatar’ wasn’t going to work either.”

Should the project come to fruition, Angelina is up for it as well.

In July, Angelina told reporters at the Hollywood “Salt” premiere, “I would be honored [to play the role,]” adding, “we haven’t gotten the script yet.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, according to USA Today, producer Scott Rudin is developing a film based on the biography “Cleopatra: A Life” “for and with Jolie.” Publisher Little, Brown confirmed that Rudin had bought the rights to the book, the paper reported.
