James Franco Gets Tweety With It, Joins Twitter, Facebook

James Franco is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to his acting rolls, but social networking has escaped the actor and Oscar co-host, until now.

On Friday, the 32-year-old joined the ranks of Leonardo DiCaprio, Edward Norton, Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Kim Kardashian, by becoming a Twitter user.

“Hi everybody, here I am on Twitter! This is my FIRST tweet,” he wrote on Friday morning, linking to a video of himself, which confirmed it is really his account.

So far, James has Tweeted just a handful of times, and amassed just under 127,000 followers.

The Best Actor Oscar nominee (for “127 Hours”) also joined Facebook, where he posted photos and videos and pulled in around 129,000 fans.

It was unclear if James planned to work his social networking into his job as co-Oscar host with Anne Hathaway. Plenty of stars have been using social media in their performances, including will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, who live Tweeted his Super Bowl half time performance with his band earlier in the month.

The Oscars air on Sunday night at 8 PM EST/5 PM PST on ABC.
