James Gandolfini’s Teenage Son Called For Help After Finding The Actor

Details surrounding the death of James Gandolfini on Wednesday in Rome are beginning to emerge.

NBC News reported that Gandolfini’s 13-year-old son, Michael, found the actor in distress in their hotel room and called for help.

Employees at Hotel Boscolo attempted to resuscitate the 51-year-old actor as they waited for emergency professionals to arrive. Gandolfini was reportedly alive in the ambulance, but was then pronounced dead at Policlinico Umberto I hospital, just three miles from the hotel.

According to CNN, the actor’s body is currently in a hospital morgue in Rome.

In addition to his son, the late actor is survived by wife Deborah and their 9-month-old daughter, Liliana.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, many fellow Hollywood stars were stunned and saddened by the death of Gandolfini, who was 51, and spoke out about the loss.

“He was a genius. Anyone who saw him even in the smallest of his performances knows that. He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time. A great deal of that genius resided in those sad eyes. I remember telling him many times, ‘You don’t get it. You’re like Mozart.’ There would be silence at the other end of the phone,” “The Sopranos” creator David Chase said in a statement on Wednesday. “For Deborah and Michael and Liliana this is crushing. And it’s bad for the rest of the world. He wasn’t easy sometimes. But he was my partner, he was my brother in ways I can’t explain and never will be able to explain.”
