Meet the young woman about to bring ‘80s cartoon rocker chick Jem to life on the big screen – Aubrey Peeples.
Aubrey – who plays “Nashville’s” pint-sized scheming singer Layla Grant – has landed the lead role in the upcoming live action reboot of “Jem and The Holograms,” according to the movie’s official site.
Based on the popular cartoon and toy line from the ‘80s, the film will follow Jerrica Benton – and her alter ego, Jem, who fronts the band The Holograms.
Joining Aubrey in the cast, are Stefanie Scott (Kimber), Hayley Kiyoko (Aja) and Aurora Perrineau (Shana), who will all play The Holograms.
According to producers, the film will follow an orphaned teenager (Aubrey) who shoots to stardom as an online music star. She and The Holograms then set out on a “music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fans will recognize Stefanie from her role as Lexi on Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm,” while Hayley is best known for her roles on ABC Family’s “The Fosters” (as Gabi) as well as from Disney Channel’s TV movie “Lemonade Mouth,” and as Stevie from “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Aurora – the daughter of former “Lost” star Harold Perrineau and actress mom Brittany Perrineau – has had roles in the film “A House Is Not A Home” and ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars.”
No word yet if those troublemaking Misfits from the original cartoon series will be revisited in the film.
Along with the casting news, the official “Jem and The Holograms” site also posted a photo of the four stars as their characters!
