Jennifer Lawrence Slams Women Hating On Women

On the big screen in “The Hunger Games,” Jennifer Lawrence slays her opponents, but off-screen the actress would like a little more peace – especially when it comes to women being supportive of other women.

“When girls are just mean to each other,” the 23-year-old told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at the junket in Los Angeles for the franchise’s second installment, “Catching Fire,” when asked what upsets her most.

“I think that we are just so unsupportive. When I watch these shows and the media and I watch the women on these televisions shows pointing to these women and judging them and calling them ugly and calling them fat,” the actress, who has been very vocal about Hollywood’s body image obsession over the years, continued.

“It’s just like, where have we come? Why are we here? Why are we doing this to each other?” Jennifer said. “Men were doing it hundreds of years ago and now we’ve turned around we we’re doing it to each other.”

The actress said she can draw connections to the cruelty of her hit franchise, where kids are forced to duel to the death as sport, and how many in the media critique women.

“Obviously in ‘The Hunger Games’ the stakes are much, much higher and you’re talking about life or death there, and here not so much, but yeah there’s definitely a parallel,” she continued.

The Oscar winner explained that she tried hard to live outside of the Hollywood bubble and not play into the viciousness of it.

“With this job and if you have a movie like ‘Hunger Games,’ that’s very successful, it takes away a really a big part of your life… I didn’t realize how much you cherish until it’s gone and then once it’s gone, you can’t ever get it back,” she told Shaun.

Adding, “It was a little scary actually when you think about it and that’s why I try to just to, you know really live in my own reality and as sad as it sounds or as good as it sounds… I just kind of ignore so much of it.”

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” hits theaters on November 22.
