Jeremy Renner On Joining Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible’ — ‘Its Like 14-Year-Old Boys’ Dreams’

As Jeremy Renner gets ready to join Tom Cruise for the fourth installment in the “Mission: Impossible” movie franchise, some have suggested Renner could eventually take over as the star of the perennial big screen blockbusters.

But is that something the former “Hurt Locker” star is gearing up for?

“That’s obviously really exciting, but I don’t know,” Renner told Access Hollywood special correspondent, Entertainment Weekly’s Dave Karger, at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. “I’d love for that to happen, but I can’t talk about it – it’s so far in the future. I’m going to do the task at hand, do the best I can and then on to the next. But the idea of it is fantastic.”

Renner – who was in Toronto to promote his new thriller “The Town,” co-starring Ben Affleck and Blake Lively – also offered some brief insight into his “Impossible” character.

“I’ll be an operative with Tom [Cruise],” he revealed. “I’m not a villain, which is pretty great. It will be a nice little change after ‘The Town.’”

As for working with Cruise on the film, Renner said he’s having fun on the “boys with their toys” set.

“It’s great fun getting to run around with Tom and learn all these fantastic moves,” he added. “It’s like 14-year-old boys’ dreams.”

The movie is also helping whip Renner into shape for another highly anticipated movie role – Hawkeye in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” which hits theaters in May 2012.

“Lucky enough, I get to do ‘Mission: Impossible’ before [‘The Avengers’] so I get to get in pretty decent shape. I’ll still probably have to workout a bit to be superhero-esque and not the lazy couch potato that I feel like I am,” he laughed.
