Joan Rivers In ‘Serious’ Condition Says Daughter Melissa Rivers

Melissa Rivers, daughter of Joan Rivers, gave fans an update on her mother on Friday.

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery,” Melissa said in a statement.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, a source told Access that the 81-year-old entertainer was placed in a medically induced coma on Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, the star was rushed to Mt. Sinai hospital in New York, after she stopped breathing during a routine surgery. She was previously in stable condition at the medical facility, the source said on Thursday afternoon.

Joan went in for throat surgery on Thursday at Yorkville Endoscopy. During the procedure, the entertainer stopped breathing and a call was made to 911, the source previously said. She was rushed from Yorkville to Mt. Sinai hospital at the time.
