Papa Joe loves him some Eric Johnson!
Jessica Simpson’s dad / manager is absolutely “thrilled” over his daughter’s recent engagement to former NFL player Eric Johnson.
“I am so thrilled as a father to see my baby so very happy,” Joe gushed to Access Hollywood at the premiere party for his new VH1 extreme sports reality show, “The X Life,” on Wednesday in Los Angeles. “I have two daughters who are in love with two wonderful guys. I couldn’t be happier as a father.”
Joe, who has managed the careers of Jessica, his daughter Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, and singer Ryan Cabrera, doesn’t know if he’ll be stepping in as “Dad-ager” for Eric in the future, but said he’ll be there to support his soon-to-be son-in-law in whatever career path he chooses.
“I will be [Eric’s] biggest fan, whatever that is,” Joe smiled. “I think he’s a wonderful guy and I’m so blessed that he’s chosen the most beautiful girl in the world.”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Eric and Jessica began dating in May, and became engaged on November 11. Though they are blissfully engaged, they have yet to begin planning the wedding.
“I think they’re just excited to be together and other than that, you know, the rest is irrelevant,” Joe told Access. “We’ve learned in our little short run that today is more important than tomorrow. So, I think they’re all about all about having a great day.”
As for what’s next for Jessica, Papa Joe said the former “Newlyweds” star hasn’t completely ruled out the idea of another reality show – but any future show would most likely focus on enhancing the lives of her fellow ladies.
“We’re working on the next great thing for [Jessica],” Joe told Access. “Right now she’s really about touching women and trying to be an example and role model for women.”
