“The Office’s” John Krasinski said it was a dream come true to team up with Matt Damon to co-write the upcoming film, “Promised Land,” which premiered in New York City on Tuesday night.
“This is just the most surreal experience probably in my career,” John told Access Hollywood on the red carpet. “It’s my first original script. To write it with Matt… and then having it directed by Gus [Van Sant] is totally surreal. And being a Boston kid, having [the] team from ‘Good Will Hunting’ on my team, it doesn’t seem possible because I’m pretty sure all us Boston kids have a ‘Good Will Hunting’ poster tattooed on our back.”
Matt also stars in the film as Steve, a natural gas company salesman, who heads to his old, small town to try and buy up the rights underneath the soil. John stars as Dustin, who is committed to protecting the environment and the safety of the people in the locale.
John said they went to Matt’s house to write the film, seeing as Matt is a dad to four girls.
“Between the putting in the ‘Little Mermaid’ 17 times and making lunch and putting them in the bath. I don’t know how we got any work done. But we did,” John laughed.
With “Promised Land” completed (and due out on January 4, 2013), John is concentrating on wrapping up “The Office,” which is in its final season on NBC.
“I think it’s going to be a really emotional moment,” John said of saying goodbye to the show. “[The] show has been everything. You know what I mean? It’s not only been my friends and my family, but it was my first job and every opportunity I’ve had in this business has come from it, so I won’t just be saying goodbye to a job or a group of people, I’ll be saying goodbye to an entire era and period of my life. That’ll be really tough to do.”
