John Mayer Opens Up On His ‘Tricky’ Split From Katy Perry

John Mayer used to dish on his exes – how could anyone forget the rocker referring to Jessica Simpson as “sexual napalm” – but when it comes to Katy Perry, John is singing a different tune.

The 35-year-old sat down with Ellen DeGeneres for an interview airing today, where she consoled him about his recent split from Katy Perry – their second breakup in less than a year.

“I just want to say, I love you and my thoughts are with you,” Ellen, who referred to seeing John with Katy at the Grammy Awards this year, said.

“It was a very private relationship going in,” he said of his romance with “The One That Got Away” singer.

“It was a private relationship during, and it’s a private relationship still,” John continued. “I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given, but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other.”
Adding, “I’m on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing.”

John might not have the girl, but he’s got his music. The singer is set to kick off his first tour in three years on July 6 in Milwaukee.
