John Mayer To Fans: ‘I Am Not An A**Hole’

John Mayer’s Tweeting seems to be restricted to tour talk since his controversial Playboy interview, but the star is still addressing his remarks when he hits the stage.

“I hate to come off like an a**hole ever, and thank you guys for believing that I am not an a**hole,” he told his audience at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, according to MTV News. “Never, ever in my entire life did I ever think that it would be a good idea to be an a–hole. But you know what? There’s plenty of a–holes who think the same thing, so I have to thank you.”

And the singer, who previously Tweeted that he “just wanted to play the guitar for people” following the outcry his use of the N-word during the Playboy interview prompted, said he’s staying on the straight and narrow from here on out.

“It’s a clean me now, people, clean me,” he reportedly said.

According to MTV News, the rocker played tracks from “Battle Studies” as well as past hits such as “Your Body Is A Wonderland” and “Waiting on the World to Change” during his sold-out set.

John previously broke down on stage on February 10 at Nashville’s Sommet Center, his first show after the Playboy interview hit the Web.

“It’s just not worth being clever,” he said at the time. “I quit the sound bite game, I quit the media game. I’m out. I’m done. I just want to play my guitar to whoever is around.”
