Julianne Hough Apologizes For Blackface Costume: I Never Meant To Be ‘Disrespectful’

Julianne Hough has spoken out about the controversial Halloween costume she wore on Friday night.

The actress took to Twitter to explain why she dressed as “Crazy Eyes” from Netflix’s “Orange is The New Black” (complete with dark face makeup).

“I am a huge fan of the show ‘Orange is the New Black,’ actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created,” the 25-year-old Tweeted on Saturday. “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way.

“I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” she added.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the “Safe Haven” actress was photographed heading to a costume party dressed as “OITNB’s” Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren, played by Uzo Aduba on the show, in Beverly Hills on Friday.

Julianne wore an orange prison jumpsuit (Suzanne’s is actually beige on the show) with a prison ID badge displaying the character’s name.

The “Dancing with the Stars” beauty also wore her hair in bantu knots and donned blackface makeup, the latter of which set Twitter ablaze with users voicing their disappointment.
