Make room for one more at the “American Idol” judges’ table.

Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi is set to join Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson as a fourth judge as the show enters its eighth season, Access Hollywood has learned.

“We are turning the heat up on ‘Idol’ this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,” creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said in a statement released to Access. “She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

Kara has writing credits on hundreds of songs, including the Jonas Brothers’ “Play My Music,” Faith Hill’s “Lost,” and tracks by artists ranging from Britney Spears to Kylie Minogue.
