Katelyn Epperly: ‘Idol’s’ Crystal Bowersox ‘Betrayed By Seacrest’?

According to one former “American Idol” Season 9 contender, Crystal Bowersox wasn’t happy Ryan Seacrest shared a tale of how he allegedly coaxed her back to the show after she reportedly threatened to quit.

Katelyn Epperly, the curly-haired contender who was cut just shy of “Idol’s” Top 12 earlier this season, told Des Moines’ Star 102.5 FM that she texted her pal after hearing the news and Crystal wrote back a short response where she shared her dissatisfaction with the “Idol” host.

“I had not heard about that, of course, and I texted her the second that I heard something about it… And I was like, ‘Hey dude, what’s going on? Are you OK?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, yes, I’m fine.’ She said, ‘Betrayed by Seacrest,’” Katelyn claimed.

On Friday, TMZ reported that Crystal nearly quit the show a little over two weeks ago, but Ryan convinced her to stay after a parking lot conversation between the two. Crystal reportedly told Ryan, “What’s the point?” and said she couldn’t handle the competition.

Ryan reportedly then consoled the singer telling her, “The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house. You can buy your mom a house.”

Ryan went on to confirm the report to E! Online, where he works, and where he was branded as “‘Idol’s’ very own Superman,” by the E! News Web site for talking her back on to the show.

Crystal’s pal Katelyn, however, said the dreadlocked singer was simply missing her son, who is just a toddler.

“She apparently had a moment backstage where she was just missing her kid,” Katelyn continued to 102.5 FM. “She just really wanted to see her little boy and sometimes it really gets to her. And I think she probably just had a moment and they probably made it to be something that it wasn’t. She’s fine. She’s still in the game, she’s just, she’s a mom.”

As for Crystal herself, she Tweeted via the official “Idol” page over the weekend, that not everything that had been written about her – presumably the quitting “Idol,” but saved by Ryan story – should be believed.

“Media is a funny thing. Stretched and skewed and far from the truth. Lets play telephone and see what we come up with!! :-)” she wrote.
