Kathy Hilton Calls McCain ‘Celebrity’ Ad ‘A Complete Waste’

Kathy Hilton has responded to John McCain’s recent campaign ad, which pitted presidential hopeful Barack Obama as a celebrity alongside Britney Spears and her daughter, Paris Hilton.

“I’ve been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad. I actually have three responses,” Kathy Hilton wrote on the Huffington Post Web site.

Kathy Hilton, who alongside her husband Rick, gave $4,600 in campaign contributions to McCain, according to CBS News, expressed her displeasure with the Republican presidential hopeful’s camp spending money on the spot.

“It is a complete waste of the money John McCain’s contributors have donated to his campaign,” she wrote. “It is a complete waste of the country’s time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs… And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States.”

In the campaign spot, images of Britney and Paris flash before showing a crowd cheering for Obama.

“He’s the biggest celebrity in the world, but is he ready to lead?” a voiceover asks.

McCain defended the ad on Friday, saying it went for a humorous angle.

“We think it’s got a lot of humor in it, we’re having fun and enjoying it,” he said, according to the Associated Press.
