Keith Urban Supports Nicole Kidman As Her Father Is Laid To Rest In Sydney

Nicole Kidman laid her father, Antony, to rest at a funeral at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sydney, Australia on Friday.

The actress’ husband, Keith Urban, was by her side as she said her goodbyes, and also acted as a pallbearer.

Nicole delivered an emotional eulogy about her dad, a psychologist, who passed away on September 12 after falling during a trip to Singapore.

“He was calm, he was wise, he was self-restrained and he was generous,” she said in her speech, according to the Daily Telegraph. “He was a good man, a compassionate man, a strong man, a man that was always there for me.”

Adding, “He was my thinker, confidante, my friend and my protector.”

Keith performed an acoustic version of “Amazing Grace” at the emotional funeral, and Nicole joined in, according to People.

“Keith was amazing, he organized everything on the day with [Nicole’s sister] Antonia’s husband, Craig,” a family friend told the mag of the “American Idol” judge’s helpfulness. “The whole day was a celebration of Antony and an incredible tribute to his amazing life.”

When the service was over, the Seekers’ “The Carnival Is Over” played as pallbearers – including Keith and Russell Crowe – carried the coffin from the church.

“When it was time to put the coffin in the hearse and say goodbye, only the family were invited to this part of the funeral,” the friend said. “Nicole was very distraught, and Keith really comforted her at this poignant moment and gave her a kiss. It was very touching.

“Keith made sure everything ran smoothly so Nicole and the family could relax,” the friend added.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Keith has temporarily stepped away from his “Idol” duties, in order to grieve the loss of his father-in-law and support Nicole.

“Idol” alum Adam Lambert is filling in in the country star’s absence.
