Kelly Rowland Breaks Down On Stage Singing About Beyonce, Allegedly Abusive Relationship

Kelly Rowland broke down on stage over the weekend while performing “Dirty Laundry,” a song which reportedly chronicles her life after Destiny’s Child, as well as her feelings over watching Beyonce achieve huge solo success. The song lyrics also suggest Kelly may have been abused by an unidentified ex-boyfriend.

In a video posted on YouTube, from her show in Washington D.C., on Sunday, Kelly was performing the track off of her upcoming her fourth album, “Talk A Good Game,” when she was caught up in the emotions of the song.

Kelly was singing a verse about abuse when the moment happened.

“Turned me against my sister… I missed you,” she sang to the crowd.

After the verse, she stopped, put her head down and then wiped away tears.

The crowd responded to her emotions by chanting, “Kelly! Kelly! Kelly!” as encouragement for the singer to continue.

Earlier verses in the song seem to hint at how Kelly felt about watching Beyonce go from strength to strength in her solo career after leaving Destiny’s Child.

“When my sister was on stage… I was enraged,” is one line from the song. “Went our separate ways/But I was happy she was killing it.”

Kelly also sang about receiving support while in a toxic relationship.

“Phone call from my sister, ‘What’s the matter?’/She said, ‘Oh no, baby, you gotta leave’/I’m on the kitchen floor/He took the keys.”

Kelly admitted to Billboard she got emotional recording the number with The-Dream.

“It was very emotional. It took me days to record,” she previously told Billboard. “I had to get past being so upset and actually sing the song, not sob through it. I always hope that my music can inspire someone, the same way other artists inspire me. Dream said, ‘I want to write you a record so that people will know exactly who you are, underneath it all.’”

Kelly’s new album will be released on June 18. Additionally, later this fall, Kelly will also be seen on FOX alongside Paulina Rubio as new additions to the judges’ panel on “The X Factor.”
