Kerry Washington Talks Scandal Premiere Ratings & Tweetathon: My Fingers Actually Hurt!

Kerry Washington got a hand workout on Thursday (thanks to live Tweeting the Season 3 premiere of “Scandal”) and the stunning actress says a little finger fatigue is worth it to interact with the show’s loyal Gladiators.

“My fingers actually hurt from the Tweetathon yesterday,” Kerry told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at Variety’s 2013 Power of Women event in Beverly Hills on Friday. “I was in the air – I was Tweeting from above the clouds because I was in New York promoting the season premiere, but I had to get back for this event, so I was above the clouds Tweeting our Gladiators!”

Kerry said she and the “Scandal” family were thrilled with the impressive ratings for Thursday night’s big premiere – the drama earned a whopping 10.5 million viewers.

“It really is amazing! I’m so happy that so many people caught up with the show on Netflix and with the DVD during our hiatus,” she said. “It feels like we were able to have a lot of new Gladiator converts.”

Among those converted is Mariah Carey’s husband, “America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon. The superstar singer revealed she had “got him hooked” via Twitter on Thursday night.

“Mariah Carey Tweeted last night that she converted Nick Cannon! Nick Cannon is now a Gladiator!” Kerry said, laughing.

As for whether the real life President tuned in to catch the latest in the Olitz saga, Kerry said she doubts the show was high on his current priority list.

“I do know that there are a lot of people at the White House who are watching [‘Scandal’] but I do think President Obama has a lot more things on his plate right now with the government shutdown and the Affordable Care Act,” she said. “But maybe it’s on his TiVo.”

VOTE: Did the ‘Scandal’ Season 3 premiere live up to the hype?
