Kevin Smith Launches Twitter Attack On Airline After Flight Ejection

Kevin Smith is not happy about being called a “safety risk.”

The “Cop Out” director, who has over 1.6 million Twitter followers, issued a flurry of Tweets on Saturday aimed at Southwest Airlines over claims of being thrown off a flight.

“Dear @SouthwestAir – I know I’m fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated?” he began. “[He] deemed me a ‘safety risk.’ Again: I’m way fat… But I’m not THERE just yet.

“I broke no regulation, offered no ‘safety risk’ (what, was I gonna roll on a fellow passenger?). I was wrongly ejected from the flight… And f*** your apologetic $100 voucher,” he continued.

The director, known for his thick frame as the character “Silent Bob” in movies he also wrote and directed such as “Clerks” and “Mallrats,” Tweeted that he wound up on another Southwest flight without incident.

“And, hey? @SouthwestAir? I didn’t even need a seat belt extender to buckle up. Somehow, that s*** fit over my ‘safety concern’-creating gut,” he Tweeted.

For the airline’s part, on its official Twitter, it stated on Saturday night that Smith would be “getting a call at home from our Customer Relations VP tonight,” also Tweeting that it was “very sorry for the experience you had tonight.”

The airline additionally blogged that the director had “originally purchased two Southwest seats on a flight from Oakland to Burbank – as he’s been known to do when traveling on Southwest. He decided to change his plans and board an earlier flight to Burbank,” leading to the single-seat situation.

Our pilots are responsible for the Safety and comfort of all Customers on the aircraft and therefore, made the determination that Mr. Smith needed more than one seat to complete his flight,” the blog post continued. “Our Employees explained why the decision was made, accommodated Mr. Smith on a later flight, and issued him a $100 Southwest travel voucher for his inconvenience.”

“Cop Out,” which stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, is due in theaters on February 26.
