‘Key & Peele’ To End After Current Season

“Key & Peele” may be saying goodbye, but the hit series’ headliners aren’t going anywhere.

The fifth and current season of the Comedy Central favorite will be its last, stars and co-creators Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key confirmed to TheWrap on Friday, but the comedians said their journey is far from over.

“It’s not because of Comedy Central, it’s us,” Key told the outlet. “It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart.”

“I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor,” he added, explaining that he and his creative partner are open to reuniting for another project down the road.

“We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie,” he said.

“I’m thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie,” he mused. “That’s the plan right now.”

On Saturday, Peele urged fans to stick with the show until the very end, and added brief gratitude for their support.

The critically-acclaimed “Key & Peele” is best known for its satirical look at everything from daily life to politics. Highlights include a viral clip of the duo parodying text message miscommunications, and Key’s breakout role as President Obama’s “anger translator” making a memorable appearance alongside the real Commander-in-Chief at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April.

In addition to winning a Peabody Award in 2013, the show is up for multiple Emmys in September, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Key.
