Kimmel, Fallon, Letterman & Guests Pay Tribute To Joan Rivers

Late night on Thursday evening was filled with tributes to Joan Rivers, including one both touching and funny from Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel.

Emmy winner Sarah was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday night and opened up about how the news of Joan’s death at 81, affected her.

“I am broken inside,” Sarah said.

“She was a hero to me and I loved her very much. I think a lot of people, when they die at 81, you go ‘Well, she was 81; she had an amazing life.’ But she wasn’t done. She right now was at her most vital,” Sarah continued. “I tuned into ‘Fashion Police’ every Friday because they were the most hardcore jokes on TV. You just can’t believe that she’s saying them.”

And then, Sarah launched into a fun bit about how she felt Joan would want people to honor her — through laughter.

“I know that if she was here, she’d would want us to be here and be funny and she’d probably want me to say like, ‘Nice tie, who made it, Calvin Clown?’ ‘I like that shirt. Does it come in men’s?'” Sarah joked.

Sarah and Jimmy then proceeded to honor Joan, by exchanging insults.

Over on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon called Joan, who appeared on his very first broadcast in the host seat, “fearless.”

“She would come out and say what you were thinking but wouldn’t say it. You would stop, but she wouldn’t stop. A lot of people thought her humor was mean, but she just wanted to make everyone laugh. And she could take a joke just as easily as she could dish it out. … We had her on our very first ‘Tonight Show’ when we took it over. I was so blessed to do that,” Fallon said.

David Letterman on, “The Late Show with David Letterman,” praised the late comedian.

“This woman — talk about guts! And by the way, she was indefatigable,” he said.

Speaking about her humor, David said, “She always felt, ‘Hey, I’m a comedian, these are jokes, there are no victimless jokes.’ And she was harder on herself then anybody really.”

Seth Meyers also had Joan on his “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” previously, said, “I have not sat next to anyone who told more jokes faster than Joan Rivers did when she was here.”

“I wish she was here right now, because if she was here right now, she would make a joke about how she just passed away, and she would get away with it because it would be really funny. So, we will miss you, Joan Rivers,” he said.

Over on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” Craig said he hopes that “when Joan meets the man upstairs, he’s wearing something she can insult.”

Conan O’Brien had another late night host, “@Midnight’s” Chris Hardwick, a friend of Joan’s, on his show, and the two reminisced about the legendary entertainer.
