Kristen Wiig To Direct First Film Written With ‘Bridesmaids’ Partner

Kristen Wiig and writing partner Annie Mumolo are back in action together on the big screen! The writing duo who brought us “Bridesmaids,” will team up again and Kristen will be in the director’s seat this time.

The duo will also write, produce and star in the film, the New York Times reported.

The film, a buddy comedy, will be about “best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with,” per the paper.

“We’re very excited to be writing,” Kristen and Annie said in a joint statement. “We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.”

Kristen added, “I’ve been wanting to direct for some time now. This seems like the perfect first project.”

Further plot details and the film’s release date have not been announced, but Thomas E. Rothman, TriStar’s chairman, joked about the film’s tone, saying, “Kristen and Annie assured me that the film will be a searing and depressing drama, which is what the world needs right now.”
